Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Tick
Tock
The clocks sings the time
The hour is upon us
One gong
Two
Three
Four
As many as necessary to get the point across
As the gongs sound
I wonder silently
Thoughts racing violently
Passions exiling me
My glass utopia shatters
As I stumble upon the realization
that the light I’ve seen is fading
I fight for it
I keep the wax fresh
But the candle is dying
The fire in her heart is strong
But the waters rival those that fought Noah
As your loved ones are leaving you
You constantly wonder
if there is anything that you can do?
No matter what
It can’t all be set in stone
Predetermined
Already defined
But, tell me
What do you do
When you’re out of time?
When your back’s against the ropes?
Can you “rope-a-dope” like Muhammad Ali?
Or do the Jack Dempsey roll?
Or think it through like Holmes or Bats?
Or tank like Supes?
Disappear, leave, go anywhere
Like Dr. Manhattan?
As your loved ones suffer
You constantly wonder
if there is anything you can do
No matter what
It isn’t fate
Destiny
Word of the Divine
But, tell me
What do you do
When you’re out of time?
When the world shows no compassion?
When man casts out his heart?
When you’ve made a fool of yourself
from the very start
And don’t know how to continue
To make amends
To heal the fractured fragments of friendship
To soothe the sin-sick soul
To help others, nor to help yourself
Weak
As the world around you burns
You can’t help but wonder
If there is anything you can do
No matter what
Someone will show you
That there is still light
Love, life, and liberty
But, tell me
What do you do
When you’re out of time?
Ten gongs
Eleven
Twelve
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
Tick
Tock
