As I process it I come to realize that This is a cycle

But I choose to love To work for a better world We shall overcome

Hate fans flames of hate Like spilled oil in the ocean Slowly catching fire

I tilt my head down To hide the red in my eyes I can’t let them see

It still hurts a lot We still carry it with us It may never leave

As tears hit the ground Syncopated rain drops mask The sounds of crying

Today marks eight years Since your Black life was taken Rest in perfect peace

We tried to resist To hold back our emotions They were just too strong

And then you were gone A void suddenly appeared Slowly opening

You were our brother We wanted to be like Just like “big brother”
