I used to send hearts in your favorite hue
Sometimes they were green, sometimes they were blue
You sent red back to show you loved me, too
‘Cause with smartphone love, yeah, you need a clue

I couldn’t always tell who was right or wrong
Too many shades of grey to limit to one song
I wonder if I held on too long?
Was I lonely, or were my feelings just that strong?

Sex and alcohol I used to bury it all
When others came after, my heart was barely involved
Skepticism, self-sabotage, continuous withdrawal
Self-fulfilling prophecy, the loop just wouldn’t resolve

Fear of pain triggered a response of flight
I couldn’t reopen the scars from all the fights
But my flight twisted the knife, that shit wasn’t right
It took a while, but I clawed my way back to the light

And all of this brings me back to Green and Blue
As I finally move on to someone new
For my past mistakes know I don’t blame you
I just had to put my thoughts into one last tune

I used to send hearts in your favorite hue
Sometimes they were green, sometimes they were blue
You sent red back to show you loved me, too
‘Cause with smartphone love, yeah, you need a clue
