(For NaPoWriMo, Day 24. Note: I have not been writing as much as I would have liked for my first NaPoWriMo. As such, I will do my best to finish the rest of the prompts for this week and will go on to complete those I missed afterwards. These will be back-dated to keep with the proper order.)
Contemplating angels and demons
Heaven and Hell
My grandmother’s birthday
Is the day that my cousin fell
His body buried on Earth
As his spirit raised to the sky
The irony that he died
On the same day she arrived
We all remember he smiled
A little more than we cried
And was trying to father
The son he has left behind
Now the boy is getting older
As the memories decline
I just hope that he can fathom
All the dirt he’s bound to find
Contemplating angels and demons
Heaven and Hell
My aunt’s birthday
Is the day my grandmother fell
Her body buried on Earth
As her spirit raised to the sky
The irony that she died
On the day her eldest arrived
A sister to the elderly
And mother to the youth
She had no time for liars
So you had to tell the truth
No matter if you were students
Politicians or the troops
Any secrets that you kept
Confessed to God in the booth
Educator by day
Educator by night
To her, knowledge was power
And ignorance was a plight
But the cancer hit her hard
And though she fought with all her might
All our worlds became darker
As she travelled to the light
Contemplating angels and demons
Heaven and Hell
Somebody’s birthday
Is the day that another fell
Their body buried on Earth
And spirit raised to the sky
The irony that they died
On the day another arrived
